Welcome to Loving Hearts Babies Home (LHBH). This site is devoted to encouraging the care and adoption of neglected and abandoned babies. LHBH is located in a suburb of Kampala, Uganda called Bunga. We care for abandoned infants between 0 – 2 years and find them loving, Christian families to be raised by.
Statistics for Ugandan children (Unicef, 2007):
- Population of 30.9 million
- Population under age 5 is 6 Million
- Annual number of births 1.45 Million
- Uganda has 2.5 Million Orphans due to all causes
- Annual no. of under-5 deaths is 188,000
- Life expectancy 51 years (UNICEF, 2007)
- Under 5 years mortality rate is 130 per 1000 live births
- Fertility rate is 6.5 children per woman
- Pregnancy related health problems are serious and Uganda’s maternal mortality rate is over 12 times higher than is normal for developed countries.
- At least 25% of all households look after at least one child orphaned by either HIV/AIDS or war.
- The number of children orphaned by AIDS is expected to rise to 3.5 million by 2010
- AIDS is now the leading specific cause of death among adults followed by TB and malaria.
- In children, the main killers are malaria, pneumonia and diarrhea
LHBH MissionStatement
Loving Hearts Babies Home exists to nurture and holistically care for the needs of orphaned/abandoned infants with the purpose of uniting them to an adoptive Christian family, so together they become ambassadors for the children of Uganda.
